Found This Week: Plugsuits on a 1997 Phone Card

All the telephone cards in this batch came from one regional Japan seller. Which is why they read like a set even though they aren't one.

Evangelion Death and Rebirth Movie Telephone Card

Evangelion Death and Rebirth telephone card by movic, Rei and Asuka back to back in plugsuits

Rei and Asuka back to back in plugsuits, promoting the Death and Rebirth theatrical run. movic, 1997. Unused, standard NTT back. (A movie that is half clip show, and people still bought the merch. Respect.)

Same year, different publisher.

Newtype Magazine Evangelion Shinji Asuka Telephone Card

Newtype magazine Evangelion telephone card with Shinji and Asuka, LCL tank artwork across the top

Shinji and Asuka, illustrated by Shinya Hasegawa for Newtype. LCL tank artwork bleeding across the top of the frame. Unused. (Hasegawa was a character designer on the show. Not a licensed cash grab, an actual hand from the production.)

Then the batch swerves into fighting games.

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball Kasumi Telephone Card

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball Kasumi telephone card, sunset beach scene

Kasumi on the beach at sunset, SPB-T-307, marked Not For Sale. Promotional issue, never a retail item. Tecmo, 2003. (Not For Sale is the whole reason it survived unused. Nobody spends a card they were given.)

Dead or Alive 4 Kimono Character Dreamcast Magazine Telephone Card

Floral kimono, temple courtyard, from Dreamcast Magazine, the one everyone calls Dorimaga. Tokuten card, 2005. (A Dreamcast magazine still running promos four years after the console died. That is loyalty or denial, take your pick.)

Back to Eva, off the phone lines this time.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Rei Ayanami Bandai 2009 Character Card C-02

Bandai 2009 Evangelion character card C-02, Rei Ayanami plugsuit portrait over a blue hexagon field

Plugsuit portrait over a blue hexagon field, eye close-up and a short Japanese bio on the back. Bandai, 2009, made in Japan. Corners sharp. (2009 Rei merch means the Rebuild money was flowing. Everything got a card that year.)

Neon Genesis Evangelion Rei x Kaworu Fan Character Card SP-02

Sealed Rei x Kaworu fan-made Evangelion character card SP-02 in its original sleeve

This one is not official. Doujin, fan-produced, no Gainax or Bandai stamp on it anywhere. Still sealed in the original sleeve, untouched since packaging. (Unofficial and SEALED is a strange combination. Somebody bought it to keep, not to have.)

Two more, both from the game shelf.

Thunder Nyan Nyan MA-09 Japanese Rare Yu-Gi-Oh Promo

Mythological Age promo, MA-09, LIGHT Thunder, 1900 attack. Japanese OCG only, never printed in English. Same idol-card lineage as Injection Fairy Lily, except she is drumming under lightning instead of holding a syringe. (Konami had a whole era of this and then quietly stopped. Wonder why.)

Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight CT1-EN004

Limited Edition out of the 2002 Collector's Tins. Level 7, summonable with no tribute if it is the only card in your hand. Holo intact. (A condition nobody ever meets in an actual duel. Beautiful card, useless clause.)

That's the week. The phone cards keep coming from that seller, so expect more of them.
